Responsibilities
The Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) at Texas State University-San Marcos invites applications for the position of Associate Professor/ Professor in Recreation.  The Department of HPER serves undergraduate and graduate students seeking degrees in Exercise and Sport Science, Athletic Training, Health Education, and Recreation.  This is a full-time, tenured faculty position with a nine-month academic year appointment, beginning August, 2010.  The successful candidate will: 1) be responsible for delivering quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate courses in Recreation; 2) serve as Recreation coordinator; 3) serve as graduate advisor to Recreation majors; 4) pursue a focused area of research and scholarship that culminates in nationally refereed publications, professional presentations, and submission of grant proposals, and be involved in scholarly projects with faculty; 5) hold active membership in relevant professional associations/organizations; and 6) serve on committees and participate in official activities at the department, college and university levels. Rank of Associate Professor or Professor is commensurate with university requirements for academic rank.
 
Qualifications
Required:
  • Earned doctorate in Recreation/Leisure or closely related field prior to appointment date;
  • Demonstrable evidence of research and scholarship (Associate) or established line of inquiry (Professor);
  • Experience with academic program coordination or other demonstrated administrative experience.
  • For appointment at the Professor rank, the applicant must meet the department and university requirements for Professor at Texas State University-San Marcos. 
Preferred:
  • Experience or participation in grant-writing and obtaining external funding for recreation-related research projects;
  • Experience as an academic program administrator;
  • Experience with accreditation;
  • Academic preparation and University level teaching experience related to core coursework in the NRPA COA-accredited undergraduate degree in Recreational Administration;  
  • Graduate teaching experience and the ability to contribute to Master of Science degree program in Recreation and Leisure Services - Recreation Management;
  • Demonstrate a clearly articulated specialty area of teaching tied to research and scholarship activities;
  • Experience working in the field of recreation;
  • Demonstrated involvement in community and service learning projects;
  • Ability to integrate a diverse and multicultural perspective into teaching; and
  • Demonstrated leadership in program, university and professional service activities and organizations.
