Responsibilities
The Director is the chief executive officer of the School of Art and Design, responsible to the Dean of Fine Arts & Communication for all matters of budget, programs, and faculty of the School. The Director is expected to exercise vision and leadership in scholarly/creative activities, faculty development, and curricular matters for both undergraduate and graduate programs. The Director is also expected to head the continuing development of outstanding programs in Communication Design, Studio Art, Art History, and Art Education. The Director has an obligation to lead in equal opportunity employment and retention of faculty and staff and the recruitment of a diverse population of students.

Qualifications
Required:
The successful candidate must have a terminal degree in the art/design field or its professional equivalency. The candidate must have a scholarly/creative, teaching, and service record that merits appointment with tenure. Other required qualifications include: a commendable record of teaching; a distinguished record of scholarly/creative activity; successful administrative experience; demonstrated ability to manage budgets, facilities, and personnel; demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with colleagues and administrators; and excellent communication skills.
 
Preferred:
The following qualifications are preferred, but not required: successful program planning and development experience; demonstrated commitment to the promotion of excellence in teaching, scholarly/creative work, and service; experience with grant development and fund-raising; and service in professional organizations, arts organizations, or community outreach.
