Responsibilities
Texas State University-San Marcos invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Computer Information Systems and Quantitative Methods in the McCoy College of Business Administration. Department Chairs are the chief executives of their departments and are responsible for the implementation of University, College, and Department policies and for the development, coordination, and administration of all academic programs and activities within their departments. As representatives of their departments, Chairs articulate program aspirations to constituents inside and outside the university community. Drawing on the assistance and advice of the faculty and staff, the Chair has the lead responsibility for the administration of the department, including preparing and managing the budget to achieve departmental goals. In addition, the chair is responsible for teaching schedules, recruitment of new faculty, evaluation of faculty and staff performance, support for grant and external development opportunities, student advising, and formulation and implementation of strategic plans and policies. Qualifications
Required:
The department is particularly interested in recruiting an individual who can embrace and enhance the vision of a collegial and productive academic environment. Successful applicants for Department Chair will have the following qualifications:
- Earned doctorate (PhD or DBA) in information systems (IS), computer information systems (CIS), or management information systems (MIS)
- A record of excellence in research/scholarship commensurate with appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank
- Full-time information systems teaching experience (minimum of 5 years for Associate Professor rank appointment or minimum of 10 years for Professor rank appointment)
- Established record of university and professional service
Preferred:
- PhD or DBA from an AACSB-accredited college or school of business
- Possession of appropriate discipline-related professional certifications
- Educational background in statistics and/or quantitative methods
- Effective teaching experience including at the graduate level
- Sustained record of research/scholarship
- Demonstrated effective administrative skills/experience managing the operations of an academic department in a university
- Experience in faculty mentoring, budget management, and student recruitment
- Industry experience and/or industry contacts
- Experience working with an Advisory Council and curricular development
- Leadership positions in professional organizations
- Experience with student organizations (e.g. AITP)
- Interdisciplinary teaching and/or research experience
