New tenure track assistant professors and associate professors at Texas State are expected to participate in the Program for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. This program consists of several sessions dedicated to strengthening teaching and learning, creating an awareness of various University resources, and addressing the tenure and promotion process. There are, of course, plenty of opportunities to ask questions. The goal of the program is not only to inspire teaching excellence on a campus that takes great pride in its history of quality instruction, but also to instill a sense of community among the new faculty.
Participants are contacted via TRACS e-mail as a reminder prior to each session, which is normally on a Friday afternoon. During the first session, faculty sign a contract indicating their intent to participate in the entire program. Upon satisfactory completion of the series, they receive a certificate, an award, and up to $800 in travel funds to support conferences related to teaching and learning.
