Life in San Marcos

Welcome to Texas State

Life in San Marcos

Texas State University and the City of San Marcos encourage faculty to live in San Marcos and contribute to developing the local Texas State community.

The natural beauty of San Marcos lies at the edge of the Texas Hill Country in the center of the Austin-San Antonio corridor.  Since 1850, this rapidly growing community has found common ground in the rejuvenating effect of the river. The tranquil atmosphere that emanates from the San Marcos River flows from the Texas State campus and through the town.

San Marcos is known for its culturally diverse community and activities. One can spend the day shopping at nearby outlet malls, tubing down the river, or taking advantage of a lazy day at Sewell Park. Once evening comes one might enjoy dinner, a concert, or a stroll around the square. With approximently 58,000 residents, San Marcos may be a relatively small community in terms of size, but it provides big city options and choices when it comes to housing.

San Marcos is family-friendly and convenient. Living in San Marcos is an ecological and economically sound choice. It is a great place to live, work, and play.

The Mission of the City of San Marcos

The goals of the City Government are to create a strong community, foster a high quality of life, promote neighborhood integrity, support sound community and economic development, conserve and protect the city's natural resources and the environment, and safeguard the health, safety and welfare of the city's residents.
